I was just reading an article over at Mustang Life about the new Kenne Bell kits for the new Shelby GT500 (aka the new Mustang Cobra) and I’m very impressed with what they’ve done! These guys have managed to coax 801 horses out of the stock GT500 engine thanks to their new twin-screw supercharger and the forged internals already present from factory. Granted they said they shredded more than a couple driveshafts on the dyno during testing but anyone planning to push that much power would have already considered upgrading that anyway. The end result of is a powerplant capable of rocketing a 4,000 lb Mustang down the quarter mile in about NINE SECONDS!
Here’s the specs on the three stages they offer for the car:
- Stage 1 - Kenne Bell’s twin-screw roots style supercharger, a dual Boost-A-Pump electronic fuel booster, custom tuning using an SCT XCalibrator flash device, and the stock intake system. Depending on pulley size (3-1/2 to 2-1/2), the Stage 1 kit will produce anywhere from 540 to 664 rwhp
- Stage 2 - All of the Stage 1 components plus the Kenne Bell Big Oval air filter and Kenne Bell MAF that adds another 60 horsepower with the stock 3-inch pulley, and can provide up to 727 horsepower on race gas with the 2-1/2-inch pulley
- Stage 3 - All of the Stage 1 and 2 components plus the Kenne Bell Big Oval inlet tube as well as a Kenne Bell dual 75mm throttle body and ranges from 627 to 801 horsepower at the rear wheels depending on the pulley and gas type (street or race)

The best part of this upgrade is no matter what stage system you put under the hood it will still look bone stock since you can still use the same stock hood with the upgrades in place. This is a nice change from other systems which require after-market hood’s to fit all the components and thus give away your secret. That means you can pull up next to that Z06 and surprise the hell out of him when you smoke him at the track (or to the next stop light… whichever you prefer). LOL All I know is this: I WANT ONE!
