Mission Impossible 3… my review.

by Mike on May 23, 2006

Just got back from watching Mission Impossible 3 and I gotta say it’s probably the best of the series so far. Great action, great story, fantastic uses of technology, and a hot Asian chick to boot! I went to see it tonight mainly because a friend of mine this past weekend told he thought it was “hands down the best movie of the summer given what I know of the other movies in the pipeline”. That said, I have to disagree with him. While it was a great movie and, as I said, the best of the MI series so far, it’s definitely not “the best movie of the summer” if you ask me. Given all the great movies coming this year (DaVinci Code, X-men 3, Superman Returns, Pirates of the Caribbean 2, etc.), I just can’t possibly see this being the best of the bunch. Don’t get me wrong… I highly recommend you see it but I just want to put my line in the sand here to say it won’t be the best movie of the summer. Back to the review….

Mission Impossible 3

This movie starts off with a great scene that really grabs your attention but then spends the next 20 mins lulling you to sleep with boring background info that never really comes into play the rest of the movie (well almost… a little does but nothing that couldn’t have been done more quickly). After that slow period though the movie really takes off and is a non-stop coaster ride of action and adventure for the remainder of the film. Now, many people may say there’s too much action but in my world there’s no such thing as too much action. Others may say that Tom Cruise is a nutcase and they won’t get it for that reason. While they’re right about him being a complete nutcase, he’s still a damn good actor and play the part of Ethan Hunt very well. I can tell you that parts of the action were a little over the top but that’s to be expected in this sort of movie. At least this MI movie didn’t have the two things that ruined the second one: John Woo directing and Tom Cruise with long hair. Just go see the movie and prepare to have a great ride after the frist 25 mins or so. ‘Nuff said on that one folks.
