As some of you may have noticed, I was absent from the blog here for the last couple days. This was the result of a last minute trip to Charlotte, NC, for me to visit the Lowe’s headquarters in Mooresville, NC, for work. For those of you who don’t know, I work for a company called Stonehouse Building Products and we make custom solid surface vanity tops for bathrooms. We’re sold nationwide via Lowe’s and they’re our biggest customer (go figure). As a result of that, we’re often asked to come down to the Lowe’s HQ for sales meetings and the like. Unfortunately, this trip they wanted our sales team to bring an IT guy with them and since I’m the only IT guy here I had to go. In all honesty, I had no reason to be there at all. Not only did I learn nothing from the meeting but I had to miss two days of work right before I’m about to be gone for three days next week (I’ll be attending the Microsoft Convergence show in San Diego, CA, next week… more come blog-wise on that). On the plus side, I got to finally see the “Lowe’s palatial estate” as it’s called and damned if that isn’t a great name for it! This place was amazing both in scale and in opulence… and it’s just the first building of a “campus” that they’re working on constructing. I tried to take some pictures of it with my Treo but they didn’t come out well at all. If I ever have to go down there again I’ll be sure to bring a camera along so I can get some good pics of the place. Let’s just say everything about their HQ screamed “we have too much money”… marble floors, teak and other expensive hardwoods everywhere, fountains, etc. That said, I’d love to work there! LOL
Anyway, as a result of this trip I was unable to do any “weigh in’s” for the past two days which I apologize for AND let me tell you now that I won’t be able to do them again next week Mon through Wed due to my trip to San Diego. I will however be updating the blog nightly about my trip and what I did that day at Convergence. I may even go all John Chow on your guys and post up pictures of the wonderful food I get to eat while I’m out there. Between the dinners I’ll be bought by consultants and vendors AND the dinner spreads at the Microsoft events I’m sure I could make a blog post or two about the food if I so choose. Either way, look for more updates on this Sunday night after I arrive in San Diego for the conference. Until then, have a good weekend everyone and I’ll see you from the West coast soon!
